I don't like lightening or thunder anymore

Last night we had a terrible rainstorm complete with hail and lightening - it rained so hard the street was flooded over the curb. Which you can't see too well since I took the picture through a rain covered window.

Then the lightening started and I started smelling smoke - why because my neighbors house got struck by lightening and started on fire. This is what the smoke looked like from my front door the house is behind the front house and to the right of the yellow one I didn't think the fire men would appreciate me coming to take a picture for my blog so I stayed by my house.

I decided if I still had power what better a time to practice dyeing? So I got out some KoolAid packets and a crockpot and began the dyeing process.

Here is the first color I added someone may or may not have read the directions correctly and may have not dissolved the dye in enough water which made the colors strong on the top layers and pretty much non existant on the bottom layers. I think the yellow makes it look like buttered spaghetti.

Here is what it looked like after all the colors were added. Ane what it looked like while it was drying.

Memorial Day

Over the weekend I finished the second sock just to where I need to start the heel flap - Sunday it was over 90 and way too hot to work on it so that was all the knitting progress I made all weekend. I had a secret plan to go to Jane's Knitting Hutch in Appleton while I was there but I didn't make it I'll have to try and make it there another time - I don't exaclty need any yarn right now and should be trying to hold off until Stitches in August we will see how I survive until then.

One Closet Done One To Ignore Indefinetely

So here's what I did yesterday after work. I installed the back rails without too much incident then onto the easy part (finally). It took about 6 hours to get this all the way installed (minus painting time so it was like a 10 hour project). The video they have on the website said about 30 minutes so it took me about 10 times as long as suggested. It makes you feel smart I tell you. But most of the stuff that belong in the closet has been loaded back in with great success. I still have the 8 ft shelf leaning against the wall it's too heavy for me to carry by myself so it may stay there for a while. The closet in my room has a ten foot shelf I don't think I can get it out by myself so I'll have to find helpers for that.
I also got my test sock yarn to start practicing dyeing with..

My prize came

My prize for sock 1763 came from ItGirl so a big thanks to her - I took a picture of the sock yarn and the cute postcard and then my camera batteries died so I took them out to charge them overnight then proceeded to bring the camera in without the batteries and I can only come up with 3 batteries here and it takes 4 so I'll update the pictures tomorrow.
*apparently the picture of my prize yarn got deleted from my camera when I knocked the camera onto the floor and the batteries flew out

It's Regia Jubilee I think the colorway was Oslo don't hold me to that! *edited to add here's the pick and I was right it is Oslo :)

I also painted the closet yellow and got the other back rail installed and that was it - I didn't feel well again yesterday so nothing got accomplished so tonight it must be finished before I can have company tomorrow as well as cleaning my entire house - should be interesting.....
Here's the yellos - it's called illuminate

What I did this weekend

Saturday I did nothing but lay on the couch with a migraine what a great way to spend a day.
Sunday I was feeling mostly better and decided to start closet organizer construction I spent an hour and a half prying the old plywood and metal shelf out and scraping the liquid nails from the wall. The satanic company I bought my closet organizers from suggested installation should take about 30-45 minutes. I think this figure comes from someone with 8 arms..... they are apparently drunk all the time over there at Rubbermaid. I spent an hour and a half with the kit and this is as far as I got on installation the back bar is partway installed. Impressive isn't it - and my hand is blistered from screwing the screws into the studs the rest of the way when the drill stopped working.
When I was taking things out of the closet I found this cute little guy so now he is sitting on my couch it makes me feel a little better about the disaster I've made of my house...
and I found my 1964 Ringo Teen Screen that I thought was lost so all in all the things I found were good.
On friday I knit 2 more rows of my sock sitting in a parking lot waiting for my friends to arrive there was a guy who kept pacing at looking at me I'm choosing to think he was just admiring my new car and not thinking I was some sort of maniac : )

Clapotis

I actually have been knitting on this for the past 2 days and have made a little progress . I am so totally going to run out of yarn - I have about 8 1/2 repeats of 13 done and am almost out of my second ball of yarn I'm trying to decide if it would be better to just make it shorter I can probably get 11 of 13 repeats with the yarn I have or to go to Richmond and try to get more.

Here are so better pics of my car - I won't say they are good picture but you can actually see that they are a color.

Normal?

You Are 60% Normal
(Really Normal)

Otherwise known as the normal amount of normal
You're like most people most of the time
But you've got those quirks that make you endearing
You're unique, yes... but not frighteningly so!

How Normal Are You?

Monday

So Friday at work the White Sox World Series Trophy came to work so I got my picture taken with it.

Feeling a little left out from not being sock 1763 and the fuss being made over the White Sox (who wants white socks when you could be Ruby Slippers Socks That Rock) being made a fuss over the 2nd sock and I got another picture taken. We had to stay far away so the men with the white coats didn't come to pick us up.

Then Saturday I went and got my new car. I like it a lot as long as I don't think about the payment : )

**this is the worst picture ever - the car is red

cake

Today I got my 5 year pin at work - I can't believe it's been 5 whole years. In some ways it hasn't felt like I've been here long and in other ways it feel like a million and a half years. I've had 2 piece of boston cream pie (cake) so far and chocolate milk.
And tomorrow I am going to buy a new car - it's been a big week - winning knitting prizes, getting cake, and buying a car ; )

Luke & Lorelei

If anyone else watched the Gilmore Girls season finale last night you know how I feel today. I knew what was going to happen and it was still painful to watch. I wish it hadn't been the finale now all summer we have to wait to see what will happen, and despite some people's opinion I still wish ASP was coming back to finish season 7.

Also as promised the pictures of Lorna's Laces - the first picture you can see the skeins of yarn on the dying table.

Here you can see the partially colored skeins and Beth the owner of Lorna's Laces.

Here are some dyed skeins hung up and drying.

Here are the skeins of Shepherds sock that I picked up aren't they pretty?

The weekend

What a weekend : ) filled with fun and excitement.
Friday night I was the lucky one that got to break open the pinata - finally after about an hour of trying...
Saturday I got up and was ready to go on the Lorna's laces tour. We arrived there about an hour early to get our numbers and to makes sure that we were in the first 20 that got to go in so that we would be able to go in together. We succeeded in that ;) Our small group probably came out with the smallest bags - so people came out with boxes and bags. It was very interesting to see how their yarn is dyed. I have some pictures but left the camera at home today so I will post them tomorrow.
Sunday I went to Vanessa's for Avery's 1st birthday party - it was very nice. I ended the day with some grocery shopping and a rootbeer float at Culvers.

Impatience

So I am very impatient this week - I am waiting for yarn to arrive - including one ball of Kelly 101 (I do find that incredibly amusing even if it is childish) and to go to Lorna's Laces with the Windy City Knitting Guild on Saturday morning - this week will never end!
I am to the toe decreases on my sock so just imagine my last picture with about an inch more fabric on it and you've got a pretty good snapshot of my progress.
No progress on the Clapotis I really need to get more motivated to start working on this project again.

weekend knitting

So over the weekend - I got a few inches done on the foot of my sock. I have about another inch before I need to start doing the toe decreases. I am wondering how quickly the second sock will be finished. I am guessing it might not go so badly since I want to avoid working on the Clapotis.

I also went to Joann's an got a little toy. I made some eyecord and tried to make the celtic stone they use as an example of what can be done using the Icord. Let's just say I'll need further instruction.
I also bought material to make curtains which I didn't make because laying on the couch seemed much more tempting. This week I am looking forward to going to Lorna's Laces with the Windy City Knitting Guild on Saturday.
