Afghan Squares and Such

Just thought I would share our great organizational technique for our warm up america afghans - we sorted out the squares into to aghans and then sorted them each into a pile of 7 since the blankets are 7x7. The warm up america site suggested making the long strips first. We cut 6 lengths of grey to tie each pile together with and everyone was able to pick up a pile and start sewing the short sides together it went more quickly than we had anticipated and most of the strips were sewn together.

In other news - my auction ended for my campbells soup dress at $520 yippee for me!

And my basil and parsley are growing wonderfully I think I put in way too many seeds to I may take some out and give them to people in tiny paper cups. The rosemary still hasn't popped up so I may toss a few more seeds in to the empty third to see if I can make them grow.

I also have everything ready to send in for the Windy City Knitting Guild except my check because my checkbook is at home - so that will have to wait until tomorrow.

Sew Together

The sew together party last night was very successful we have most of the small sides sewn together and a few of the strips sewn together - we were about 4 squares short so I am knitting one and so are Erica and Joanne so we should have enough to finish 2 afghans next tuesday :) if we can get volunteers to do more sewing.
Everyone brought delicous snacks and pretended to be entertained by my campbells soup collections so that was fun!
always a good time when knitters get together.

the best thing to do

When you are having company is obviously starting some home improvement projects
like tearing down wallpaper on a wall that looks okay - not the greatest but you wouldn't be totally humiliated to have people see it.
With this in mind I spent yesterday afternoon ripping apart my house - literally : )
I primed the wall after I tore down the wallpaper and it looks okay - it's again a plain white wall - it took some sanding and some spackling but its done. I'm going to just rehang my shelf with campbells soup stuff and wait for summer and some help before I paint it.
Then I decided to take down the tie back things that were mind boggling different over the three windows in the dining room and living room - why is this mind boggling? because there were 2 different ones in the living room not 2 of the same in the living room and a separate one in the dining room. The top screws were stripped and I made this lovely whole trying to get one of them out - the two that were shells instead of fleur-di-lis just ripped some paint of the wall -so now I have this whole and 3 of the hook things left. Delightful.
Here's a picture of my dry erase magnet board nice and propped up with my pattern on the couch. And here's a picture of my clapotis's progress it's not much but I've been busy : )

Cranberry Grape Juice

I solemnly swear never again to drink cranberry grape juice while wearing a cream colored sweater to work again.
Though most sweaters look great with giant pink splotches.
The shout wipe didn't help much but luckily I was wearing a tank top underneath and keep a spare cardigan at my desk.
They should make white cranberry white grape juice - less stain power same great taste.

I am having picture uploading issues today so there are two post with pictures of my Clapotis - I started using Harrisville Yarn in Grass Green - I'll look at the color number tomorrow to post it. I'm enjoying it it's so simple to follow I think I am going to leave out one increase and one decrease because i only have 600 yards and it calls for 615 and I know people have run out. I also picked up a magnet board at Target yesterday - it was only like $8 and its a dry erase magnet board it's 11 1/2x11 1/2 so I have a few inches on the side to write notes without covering up the paper.

Spring is Springing

This is the pot of herbs I planted about a week or so ago on Friday - they popped through the soil (well 2 or the 3 plants came through - one is supposed to take 7 days longer than the others) I was very excited to see they were actually growing.

And here is how the plants looked this morning they grew a lot over the weekend!

Here's Colleens Shawl - I had Crystal over for some knitting Saturday afternoon (we both worked on shawls) and I had a goal of finishing the shawl by that night. I was working and working and working and noticed I still had 3 rows left to go and only had about 5 yards of yarn left. I looked at the directions and realized I was supposed to work to 115 stitched not 155 I had gone too far - so I ripped back a row at a time cutting the fringe so there are 121 stitches in the last row instead of 115. So I ripped out and cut fringe until about midnight on Saturday and started binding off but didn't finish that until Sunday morning and then I added the fringe. Hopefully I will cast on for my Clapotis tonight and get started on that. It's a lovely grassy green.

Happy St. Patricks Day

This is a picture I took last week while I was driving to Jonah's birthday party - near the bottom of the pic in the center you can see a tiny bit of the rainbow and the dark spot in the middle right is dirt from my windshield - probably would have turned out better if the picture wasn't taken while moving or through the windshield.

Here are the three charity squares I made so far! We are up to 75 squares. We need 23 more so that should be easy to do.

And here's a picture of my Olympic Sweater I wore it to work yesterday but I took the picture of myself and it looks terrible and I'm wearing my pajama pants which clash with the sweater.

Here's an update of Colleen's shawn I have about 23 more rows to do then bind off and add fringe. It's been interesting working with the size 17 needles. It's gone pretty fast but the railroad yarn likes to catch on the tip of the needle so sometimes I have to pull the yarn off and it's so loops it gets stretched out in some parts.

Tuesday

So not much to report knitting wise - still working on the shawl and the charity squares. I am going to be an aunt again in September so that will be exciting! Jonah turned one on Thursday so I went to his birthday party on Friday we enjoyed the ice cream sandwich cake (especially the cool whip on top) some people should take pictures of things like that (oops) Mom and Grandma took lots of pics so I am sure I will see some soon.
My grill still hasn't arrived that will be exciting hopefully it will come before friday or it may be sitting on my front step all weekend.

Charity Squares

I thought I would share a picture of the pile of squares that are on my kitchen table. We only need 34 more squares to have enough for 2 afghans and some people doubted we could even finish one.

I also thought I should share the large pile of squares I did. Okay so it's only one but I think it looks great.....the second one is about half way done.

I finished one square

I finished my first square for the charity knitting project yeah! We have a total of 64 squares now we need 34 more to make 2 afghans which was my goal for the group!

not much to report

and no pictures I think it may be time for a new camera
I planted some herbs in a pot inside yesterday - basil, rosemary, and parsley we will see how that turns out. I put them on the plant stand I bought which is about 12 inches too short - oops.
so I used some longaberger stands I have from christmas baskets so it will be closer to the sun I'll need to get a new one that's taller.
The only knitting I worked on was Colleens shawl - I will try and have a picture tomorrow ;)

a start

here's the start to the shawl I am making for Colleen very easy pattern - two increases per row doesn't take too much brain energy
It's lion brand trellis on size 17 needles so it should go quickly
